Partick Thistle has provided a positive update on Courtney Stewart’s condition following her three-hour wait for an ambulance after sustaining a head injury during a match against Rangers.

Stewart was injured in a collision with Rangers’ Laura Rafferty just 10 minutes into her team’s 4-0 loss in the Scottish Women’s Premier League at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld.

Partick Thistle’s update stated: “After suffering a head injury 10 minutes into the game against Rangers, Courtney was transported by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital shortly after 5 pm. Courtney remains in the hospital but is awake, alert, and talking, with clear CT scans and X-rays.”

Thistle expressed gratitude to their physio, Alannah MacPherson, Rangers’ medical team, and St John first-aiders for their “excellent response” and wished a “speedy recovery” to Rafferty, who also left the game following the head collision.

On social media, midfielder Stewart expressed her gratitude for the support and thanked the medical staff. She also humorously quoted Mario Balotelli, saying, “Like Mario Balotelli once said … ‘why always me?!’”

Partick head coach Brian Graham, also the men’s team captain, called for changes after the lengthy wait for medical assistance.

“You fear the worst as soon as you see it happening, but credit goes to our medical staff, the Rangers medical staff, and the first-aider because they really looked after her,” Graham said in a club video.

“But she is still waiting on an ambulance as we speak right now, and I think something’s got to change on that front,” Graham told BBC Scotland shortly after the match. “I just don’t think we get that in the men’s game … obviously it comes down to finance.”
