Enzo Maresca's comments on Chelsea's title chances offer important insights for Liverpool, especially when considering the current reality for Arsenal.

Enzo Maresca may try to downplay Chelsea’s title chances, but the truth is they’re very much in the mix.

Currently, the Blues sit just four points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, having claimed a solid haul of points, especially after taking advantage of Tottenham’s inconsistency under Ange Postecoglou.

Arne Slot’s team does have a game in hand on Chelsea, but Arsenal and Manchester City trail by two and four points, respectively.

While Chelsea haven’t yet defeated any of their title rivals this season—drawing with Arsenal and losing to Manchester City and Liverpool—they’re still second in the league. Like Slot’s Liverpool, Maresca’s side is surpassing expectations.

Enzo Maresca’s Candid Title Admission

After Chelsea’s win at Tottenham, the former Manchester City coach resisted getting caught up in title talk.

“Arsenal, [Manchester] City, and Liverpool probably don’t slip up like Cucurella did,” Maresca said, as quoted by BBC Sport. “To be serious, we’re not ready. We’re far from those teams, but we focus on improving day by day. The goal is to keep the players focused and prevent them from slowing down, knowing there’s always another player waiting to step in.”

It’s clear Maresca is keeping expectations in check. However, it’s hard to ignore how far Chelsea has come compared to the underperforming squad left behind by Mauricio Pochettino. Where there was once dysfunction and lack of direction, now there’s a growing sense of unity. Even if Chelsea still need more time to become serious title contenders, as Maresca suggests, their progress should be a concern for Liverpool, Arsenal, and City fans looking ahead.

Arsenal Handing Control Over to Liverpool

With Liverpool dropping points at St. James’ Park, Arsenal had a chance to make up ground. A 2-0 win over Manchester United was a promising start, but they couldn’t take full advantage of the chaos caused by Storm Darragh. A frustrating 1-1 draw with Fulham left Paul Merson feeling that Arsenal missed an opportunity.

“Advantage Liverpool,” Merson concluded, pointing to the shift in momentum.

It’s now up to Liverpool to seize the opportunity.
