Galatasaray are reportedly eyeing a move for Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, according to ESPN. The Turkish club is in the market for a midfielder and has added the Brazilian to their shortlist, a source revealed.

With the Turkish transfer window open until September 13, Galatasaray still has time to finalize their summer signings. Casemiro’s future at Old Trafford has become uncertain after a poor showing in United’s recent 3-0 loss to Liverpool. The 32-year-old was substituted at halftime after making two mistakes that led to Liverpool’s first two goals, both scored by Luis Díaz.

Casemiro’s spot in Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup is also in jeopardy following the arrival of Manuel Ugarte. The Uruguayan midfielder was signed for £50 million ($66m) from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day but was unable to face Liverpool as he wasn’t registered in time. Ugarte is now with the Uruguay squad for their World Cup qualifiers and could make his United debut against Southampton on September 14.

Casemiro, who joined United from Real Madrid in a £60 million move in 2022, still has two years left on his contract. His substantial wages, reportedly over £300,000 a week, could pose a challenge for Galatasaray, making a loan deal more likely, with United potentially needing to cover part of his salary. Galatasaray, last season’s Turkish champions, have already secured a surprise loan deal for striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli.

Manchester United are actively looking to reduce their wage bill, having already parted ways with several high earners like Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea, Anthony Martial, Raphaël Varane, and Jadon Sancho. Sources have indicated that the club has been open to offers for Casemiro throughout the summer, though expected interest from the Saudi Pro League has yet to materialize.
