The contract standoff between Chelsea and 18-year-old defender Josh Acheampong seems to be easing. After months of being sidelined, Acheampong made an appearance in first-team training this week.
While a new deal hasn’t been finalized, Acheampong’s involvement is an encouraging sign. However, he won’t be part of the traveling squad for Thursday’s match against Heidenheim in Germany.
“There’s no update regarding his contract or anything like that,” said Enzo Maresca, per *Football.London*. “He’s trained with us over the last two days along with some of the younger players, but he’s not in the squad for tomorrow. We’ve brought four or five players from the second team instead.”
Those players are Tyrique George, Sam Rak-Sakyi, Shim Mheuka, Kiano Dyer, and third-choice goalkeeper Lucas Bergström.
Hopefully, it won’t be long before we see Josh joining them!
