Manchester United anticipates Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood to return to training if they haven’t transferred by the start of preseason, a source informed ESPN.
Players not participating in the European Championship or Copa América have been instructed to return to Carrington on July 8.
The club is actively seeking new teams for Sancho and Greenwood, but if they remain with United by that date, they are expected back in training.
Greenwood, who has drawn interest from Lazio, Juventus, Napoli, and Marseille, may train at Carrington for the first time since January 2022, following his suspension due to arrest on charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault.
The case against Greenwood was dropped in February 2023, and he resumed his career on loan at Getafe last season.
A source told ESPN that arrangements for Sancho’s return are not yet finalized.
Sancho, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, has not trained with the first team since his public dispute with manager Erik ten Hag in September.
Sources revealed to ESPN that Sancho has been offered to Barcelona and Juventus, but his £40 million ($51m) valuation is a hurdle for interested clubs.
United prefers permanent transfers for both Sancho and Greenwood, though loan options are also being considered.
Simultaneously, United is reorganizing Ten Hag’s staff for the upcoming season, having engaged in talks with Go Ahead Eagles manager Rene Hake.
Negotiations with Hake, who collaborated with Ten Hag at FC Twente, are advancing, and the 52-year-old is likely to be offered a role in United’s backroom team.
According to a source, Hake is expected to be part of a coaching staff overhaul, which also includes the appointment of former United striker and PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The futures of current assistants Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren, both of whom joined with Ten Hag in 2022, remain uncertain.
Forwards coach Benni McCarthy is also set to depart, with his contract expiring at the end of the month.
